Insurance is useless! Except for catastrophic insurance, like you have on your house. Insurance is why costs are up, not because insurance companies steal money from us, but because they stand between the doctor and the patient, reducing quality of care and price negotiation.
-
The reason your costs are so high isn't the government involvement, it's the 31% of the money that goes to nothing but administration. Doctors need staffs to sue delinquent accounts; HMOs have millions of people working to find ways to deny claims. It's ridiculous.
Countries with single payer systems don't have this. Go to NationMaster and look it up. Countries like Canada, the UK, and Australia, are paying roughly have per patient with the US is, but their citizens live 2-3 years longer.

People are sick & dying to the profit of the insurance companies. i agree with this fuck the commerce part about it life is more important

So we already have government controlled health care and we pay the highest costs and have some of the worst levels of care and you say the solution is to give the government more power?
You say that single payer will the eliminate overhead costs but the government has been known to loot public programs to pay their bills, why do you think medicare is going bankrupt?
I make no claim that the current system is perfect, but I'd rather not give my money to the government for them to fix it.
Some argue that health care for the people is not in the Constitution. Neither were any of the amendments originally. Now we got free speech, press, assembly, and women can vote. Tried banning alcohol. Didn't work, it's not a freedom. So Amend the Constitution, Freedom to be healthy.

The other problem is the current model puts all the burdon on employers & most employers are small & struggling, & millions are out of work. So it works on a faulty premise.
Maybe what is needed is insurance reform.
1. Premium not to exceed 10% of income
2. Everyone is covered
3. No copays, deductibles, coinsurance
4. No pre-existings, no drops
5. Dr/patient decide what is medically necessary.
6. Medical, mental, dental, optical, all inclusive
If insurance don't like it, Public Option

Generally whenever there is a huge cost disparity it is a sign of insidious corruption. It could be argued that the govt is no exception either.
The problem is that the model needs major business process redesign & the private sector has done very little to solve the problems. We have one company here that built & runs their own clinic. Saves money by gaining control of 80% of their medical needs. Then less insurance is needed & just fir catastrophic/specialty.

To get a feel for how single payer works see the movie SICKO. The problems happen when introducing privatization and bean counters.
The benefits of single payer are a healthier populace. Little problems are handled and do not become pandemics because people cannot afford health care, or insurances deny coverage.
Faith and herbal healing work to an extent. But sometimes surgery is needed. Sometimes a chemical or antibiotic is needed.
Be healthy, live well.
