I think that The Singing Detective is a brilliant piece of work. Many people that knew Dennis Potter well reckon it was an autobiography, though he always denied this. The story has everything, mystery, adventure, comedy, music and even pornography! Yes it's all there and so cleverly put together.

Dennis is all the characters. ..they're all him. Anyway, entirely agree with your comment...oh how I wish we still had writers of Potter's ilk...I truly miss him, the greatest television writer of all time.

@simplymeele Don't forget "...Jonah in the ark..." "...to illustrate their last remark..." whatever that means here. LOL This is a classic and I think every line is brilliant and the setting with this actors dancing routine is noting but awesome. But when the song suddenly change too boogie-gospel I am in heaven! . ;O) BUT who in heaven is this mister in between one shouldn't mess with? Any answers?
