  • Get outside and smell the air

  • I find the concept interesting. Although i dont think that the identity created on the web are of very significance in that it is only a fictous imagenation of how you would like to be percieved by the rest of the net-community.

It might serve as an outlet in reaction to the anominity created by the state (of any regime) or as a substitute but remains fictuous.

It is only a false escape

  • Wesch, You and your students start to get your head blown up. Watch out! get back on your feet before you get lost yourself.

You are actually missing the whole part of the world out of USA. Do not forget it!

  • I think that every cultural study on internet, thinking in youtube as an example, must include the local/global culture distinction, specially in countries of peripheral economies

Another interesting way to look at this cultural phenomenom is how anonimous creations reach some level of value to media enterprises, generating high amonts of revenues through the publicity they sell.

So go on and congratulations! It's a great proyect!

  • hi! I'm Stefania, from Chile, and i am a sociology student (Universidad de Chile).

I was thinking about a possible investigation on how people use youtube as a cultural fountain and trying to link it with a stratification survey to know if there is a different use of this web site across de social structure when I found your web site.

  • Oh shit, you got Anthropology in my 4chan!

  • Thanks Michael and Digital Ethnography class. Through your exploration of the the changes in our culture and media you are teaching us. I share your work with all the high school teachers and students I can.
