ROTTEN PEACHES
Elton John
Madman Across the Water (1971)

We've moved on six miles from where we were yesterday
And yesterday is but a long long ways away
So we'll camp out tonight beneath the bright starlight
And forget rotten peaches and the places we've stayed

I left from the dockland two years ago now
Made my way over on the S.S. Marie
And I've always had trouble wherever I've settled
Rotten peaches are all that I see

Rotten peaches rotting in the sun
Seems I've seen that devil fruit since the world begun
Mercy I'm a criminal, Jesus I'm the one
Rotten peaches rotting in the sun

There ain't no green grass in a U.S. state prison
There is no one to hold when you're sick for your wife
And each day out you'll pick, you'll pick rotten peaches
You'll pick rotten peaches for the rest of your life

Oh I've had me my fill of cocaine and pills
For I lie in the light of the Lord
And my home is ten thousand, ten thousand miles away
And I guess I won't see it no more

  • I think I could listen to Elton for 24 hours straight

  • Who cares if Elton took drugs? Judge a musician on his music.

    Simple as that.

  • I.. I love you Elton John.

  • I lived this song . So it hits home for me.

  • Country rock? Gospel rock? Altri tempi...

  • Best album was "Songs From the West Coast" from 2001. If you're unfamiliar with it, give it a listen and you'll at least agree with me it stands up to "Madman" and "Tumbleweed" quite well.

  • after captain fantastic and the brown dirt cowboys i didnt like much stuff he did

  • @PeteGeeza86 Simple, yes, but few things are as difficult as standing up for your ideas and beliefs and where music has generated such an enormous number of cliques following a particular genre, I am especially happy to see that so many young'ns are listening to pretty much EVERYTHING, regardless of the artists' proclivities.

Remember that, the next time someone curls their lip when you listen to Michael Jackson or Tiny Tim, two consummate musicians who were often ridiculed....

  • this album and yellow brick road are my fav albums from elton john

  • @skotrock your daughter for President!!!

  • I've played this album so much lately that my 3 1/2 year old daughter can sing with the whole thing
