Today is the fifth day I've consumed no food, only water, to protest the expulsion of humanitarians from all of Sudan (including, of course, the Darfur region and the refugee camps). For more information go to www.miafarrow.org

  • I think it is a horrible thought and reailty in these times to have this kind of thing still happening in our world.

  • Friends, please please do not ignore Ms. Farrow's hunger strike. And, to get better acquainted of Darfur problem please read an influential article by the eminent african scholar Mahmoud Mamdani - "The Politics of Naming" published in London Review of Books. Prof. Mamdani also has an interview on Darfur at Democracy Now.

  • Mia is wonderful. The problem with UNICEF is that its founder, Julian Huxley was an ardent Malthusian-eugenics ideologue who believed that the poor were "useless eaters" who should be allowed to perish when disaster comes so that the rich can occupy their natural resources. In Rwanda the West knew very well what was about to happen but did nothing. As Steven Lewis said, Rwanda had nothing to sell, nothing to buy" so too bad for the hundreds of thousands who were slaughtered.
