Ahmad Batebi is an Iranian student who gained notoriety for his appearance on the cover of The Economist magazine holding up a bloodied shirt belonging to a fellow student who had been beaten by the Basij paramilitaries. The photo, which has been called "an icon for Iran's student reform movement," was taken during the Iranian Student Protests in July 1999 in Tehran. Following its publishing, Batebi was arrested, tried in closed-door proceedings, found guilty of "creating unrest," and sentenced to death. This was reduced to 10 years after domestic and international outcry. Less well-known are persistent reports of torture and ill-treatment of Batebi in prison, and his resulting poor physical and mental health.

  • magnetcf !by the way, just to finish this funny discussion even in a more funny way...gotta tell u that in english there is a word for "narenjak" and that is "grenade",learn before u spit shit!old dumb lady ..its never too late!

  • oh for god damn sake!shut up!comparing democracy and toleration of governments towards their ppl between iran and united states is sooo hilarious that isnt even worth talking about!i bet u live in jordan or somewhere or else u would have at least once seen the "john stewart show" mocking US president and others in the whitehouse every night!on US television! or late show and many more!u would've at least seen once ppl rallying in front of white house, burning bushe's pictures and swearing at him!

  • magneticf

also i need to remind u of 2 more facts!

1.its not universal(not in free countries!)to imprison ppl who write against a government on weblogs, newspapers or magazines!its not common to arrest and torture ppl just for a peacful rally in a street!its not common to be imprisoned for the slightest critisism against the countries first leader!...etc

2.nor ppl here, nor ppl of iran nor the brutal government of iran need YOU to tell them how things should be done! so politely...SHUT UP!

  • there are 3 scenario's!here!1.u are a complete dumb ass!who isnt aware of anything going on in iran!2.u pretend to be a fucking dumb ass!3.ur not a dumb ass but a member of this bloodthirsty regime!who wants to justify its acts here! ok no considering u are the first one(a complete idiot!)i have to make u aware of sth!

shortly after ahmadinejad's speech in amirkabir uni many of those protestors were arested!but under other MADE-UP accusations! like publishing insulting content against khamenei!
