  • To defend him, he is correct in the leg switching, which is the standard guard pass that we teach, and what I learned training in Brazil. He is only showing the set-up after breaking the guard - more advanced jiu-jitsu would use the other leg to pass over the head and take the side, but this is basic set-up, for white belts... my thoughts

  • True. A wriggly opponent (or a strong one) could reverse you at the point that you've pulled your legs through but you are not yet balanced. Then again, all guard passes have pitfalls. I haven't seen one yet that didn't - this is just a basic technique that could be used with good timing (and preferably some punches to the other guy's face).

  • this is rook. #1 no one's guard would just fall if you pushed on their thigh with your palm. you could get some space but #2 they grab either leg and your in full mount. rook!

  • why fling your leg over to pass like that on the second way he shows..an expirenced guy would use that motion to put you right on your back.

  • If you already have the leg pinned and the other leg in that upper position why not just pass under the leg?

  • is he calling that "side mount"
