I don't think America has no sense of solidarity as a nation only it's a solidarity of people in opposition to any kind of powerful government. Therefore people not wishing a state-run healthcare system even though there are millions without the means to access expensive medicine are showing solidarity to those millions by preferring freedom for them from a possible tyrannical government over access to healthcare.
