Farmers in Northern Greece are being urged to switch crops that require minimal irrigation in a bid to revive a dying lake.
Water levels on Lake Doirani are so low that fish stocks and tourism have been wiped out.
Three quarters of the lake belongs to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and the remainder to Greece.
Greeces is fighting a lonely diplomatic battle to prevent its northern neighbour calling itself Macedonia ,because it claims it implies territorial ambitions over the Greek province of the same name.
But as Malcolm Brabant reports, the lakes problems are forcing people on both sides of the border to put aside the bitter name dispute.

So that's where the water shipped to drought-striken cyprus comes from;)

Το μάθημα της λίμνης είναι πως το περιβάλλον δεν έχει ονόματα και σύνορα, πως και οι δύο χώρες πρέπει να συμβάλλουν στην βιώσιμη ανάπτυξη της περιοχής.

ξέρεις πως οι Σλαβο"μακεδόνες" διδάσκουν στα παιδιά του δημοτικού πως η μισή τους χώρα είναι σκλαβωμένη, πως πρωτεύουσσα τους είναι η Θεσσαλονίκη και πως οι γείτονες έλληνες είναι από την Αιθιοπία;; ποιός είναι ο φασίστας;

Finally why don't you do a story on the rasist-genetics kid in FYROM are taught in school and their government funded nationalist agression towards Greece?? Why don't you try an unbiased story about the historical relation of the residents of FYROM to Alexander of Philip?
vetdino 3 years ago
Actually it's the other way round in the case of lake Big Prespa, it is being polluted from the side of FYROM and it's Greece which tries to save it. Maybe you should do a story on that as well!
Also let me remind you that "Macedonia", as you called it, is recognized by the UN AND the European Union (including YOUR country) as FYROM! It is therefore not only the insistance oF Greece, but of all major world Organizations!
