MTV Station ID for Christmas 1992. This is the work of artist Keith Haring (May 4, 1958 -- February 16, 1990). He was a pre-eminent artist and social activist whose work responded to the New York street culture of the 1980s. Haring, who was openly gay, died in 1990 of an HIV (AIDS)-related disease. Never thought I'd see this one ever again. It's a shame that MTV has divorced itself from the more artistic aspects of the station's early life, and even sadder still that mainstream pop can't find an artist to latch onto like they did with Haring.
