Explosive Edge Athletics' Athletic Performance Assistant, Matt Neufeld, brings us this highly informational short video pertaining to more additional concepts of plyometrics in this second installment.
Plyometrics part II: Creating Shock
This video gives information on: - what shock is - how to create shock - how to use shock in your workout safely and effectively
Tune in next week for Exercise Demonstrations and technique explanations in part III.
I am familiar with potentiation effects and currently use them on my dynamic/speed day Thursday(sled pulls 4-5 sets followed by 1-2 sets of 10 yd sprints). My question was actually (sorry for being unclear, or maybe i am just not understanding your response) if you think it would be beneficial to perform depth/altitude jumps (instead of standing/box jumps) before my Max effort squat or dead lift which takes place on my Max effort day, Monday. Thanks !

Thanks for the question! Actually, I have seen research that suggests the opposite. Some have studied submax squat efforts before jumping, leading to an increase in max v. height of almost 5%.
That being said, it is a great idea (especially in the dynamic phase of your training) to warm up your CNS with activities that will prep you for explosive motion. Start with less shock then alt. jumps, so as not to burn out pre-workout. Try altitude drops for now and see how you feel.

hi Matt great video one question, i follow a conjugate style training system and on my strength day i usually like to start with an explosive jumping activity (not to taxing) just to work on my form and also warm up CNS for my max effort leg lift. I usually choose box jumps or something of that nature however i want to incorperate some depth jumps, is this an approprite time for them? or will it be to strenous/effect my max lift performance? thanks in advance
