The 2011 North Carolina All State 11-12 Band performs Frank Ticheli's Rest, arranged for band from his original piece for choir. Rest was written in memory of Ticheli's close friend's young son, who drowned in a tragic accident.

Band conducted by Dr. Kevin Sedatole. Photo is "Calm Waters," from Port Orange, Florida.

  • I played this recording too. Such a fantastic group to play with, and we had a great conductor as well. One of the most beautiful pieces of music, especially when you know the background of why it was written.

  • We're playing this at PMEA Region VI band this week...can't wait

  • MORE TUBAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!! jeez i played this song on tuba this year... 70 something measures of rest (haha rest get it) then fortissimo low Eb... so glorious. we totally butchered this song though... everything else we played was great but this song was BAD.

  • @whwdc Why was this song written, or at least the background.. Like I'm familiar with American Elegy and the reason that was written but not rest.

  • this piece is soooo beautiful <3 I'm pretty freaking proud to play it as 1st Clarinet (: (:
