The p-i-m-a-o digit letter codes are from the Spanish names for those digits, except for the pinky. (The Spanish invented the Spanish guitar, not the Italians.) Here are the Spanish names.

¿Otro? (other?) because they call it the "dedo meñique", but that starts with 'M', so they had to use anOTHER letter that was unique. "Little" is "pequeño", and 'P' was taken. I've never seen a letter code for the right little finger before because classical guitarists don't use it.

Yes my guitar there is a yairi. Thanks for letting chris know... I was not paying attention and I thought I was on his channel. I make it up to Baton Rouge at least once a year and I hope we can meet, I'll try a cyberjam though. Great mandolin playing!
