This algorithm is everything you need to know for the diagnosis and management of Meningitis for your exam. It is written and narrated by a USMLE Expert, and is to the point.   • Strep is no longer the most common cause of bacterial meningitis due to improved vaccinations...think N. Meningitis as the most common bacterial meningitis

  • Please site your source. You are mixing your facts up with H.influenza vaccine which was the leading cause in the 1990's. According to statistician's textbook of medicine's recent edition, strep. pneumo. remains BY FAR the Most common over all cause with N.meningitidis a far second. As far as I know Strep. Pneumo vaccinations are given universally after the age of 65 so I don't know how this would affect the entire majority of the world's population. What serotypes are you talking about?

  • USMLE expert my ass. Fever is missed out and is very important to even consider an infectious cause. Given your symptoms, meningitis is the last of the differentials.
