@satjathamma : this is not a subtle device. It's not for chords - single note lines only.
Think of the lead guitar parts in In A Gadda Da Vida, or the band Touch from the 60's (I have no idea what they used), then it's mind blowingly perfect. Also sounds amazing before a Wah pedal. :)

sounds like crap

I think that even with the octave switch it sounds pretty much the same. the octave switch on both is a horrible nasty sound. :)

don't use the octave switch? or get the Danelectro French Toast, dead clone.
[yes, im replying to a 4 month old post, but someone might get some use out of it]

I own the FrenchToast, and it's incredibly good for the price. Too bad that DanElectro did not produce it any longer...

I have one of those. It's really old and looks just the same. It's almost like a synthesizer with the octave on. I bought it from a friend in the 80's for about $25. Nothing else sounds like it. I think it was used by Adrian Belew on "Big Electric Cat". That's why I wanted it back then.
Danelectro French Toast Octave Distortion is suppose to be a copy of this. Based on this video and the Danelectro that I own it's pretty close and a hell of a lot cheaper...
