In this video we make green fluorescent crystals from Terbium metal. Terbium is used to dope calcium fluoride, calcium tungstate and strontium molybdate, materials that are used in solid-state devices, and as a crystal stabilizer of fuel cells which operate at elevated temperatures. As a component of Terfenol-D (an alloy that expands and contracts when exposed to magnetic fields more than any other alloy), terbium is of use in actuators, in naval sonar systems and in sensors.

The largest consumer of the world's terbium supply is in "green" phosphors (which are usually yellow). Terbium oxide is in fluorescent lamps and TV tubes. Terbium "green" phosphors (which fluoresce a brilliant lemon-yellow) are combined with divalent europium blue phosphors and trivalent europium red phosphors to provide "trichromatic" lighting technology, a high-efficiency white light used for standard illumination in indoor lighting.

  • Holy shit. It was generating H2 gas for 2 days straight? I have a bit of an obsession with flourescence so I think I'm gonna make some of these crystals. Have you ever seen a solution of harmala alkaloids under UV? Its trippy shit.

  • @ampikine Yeah... it takes forever.

  • Did you say your Tb was from chemkitdepot? I couldn't quite make out what you said. Very nice of them to donate something to you! If it was them, their free bromine offer sounds pretty good. Are they a good company to deal with?

By the way I like how it sounds like you start calling it tiberium :)

  • @mrhomescientist Correct.. sorry... Yeah I tell them about any video I am going to make... if they like it... and it is safe.. they will provide me with the items I need to do it. I then mention their name in the vid. I have bought a bunch of things from them and have been happy with everything I received, They ship really fast. My biggest complaint is they do have a whole lot... but they are working on that.

As for Tiberium ... way to much C&C in the 90's.. hahahaha

  • I never knew Black & Decker made lab equipment

  • @Ilovetheplatypus Some of the best!! hahaha

  • On a Chess Board Is Terbium Fusioned with Viconium making Verbium better than Black Ice Defender Vibranium Chess?

  • Could I use a desiccator bag instead of an oven?

  • Is your terbium pure?

  • where do you get your vials? and what size is that?

  • @myst32YT Nice, that's a pretty sweet deal! C&C is my favorite series of RTS games, I loved them all. 4 was disturbingly different with really no resource management at all, but I still enjoyed playing it. Keep up the good work on your channel!

  • @myst32YT I don't think so...maybe there are some pieces of unreacted metal...
