Feature on the former world record holder.

Sub-9.90 runs (100 m)

Powell has run under 9.90 seconds 24 times, 17 of which are in the 9.80 to 9.89 range. Maurice Greene is second in this category, with 10 runs in the 9.80 to 9.89 range.

Sub-9.80 runs (100 m)

Powell is one of only two men to have run legally under 9.80 seconds more than once, having done so seven times. Bolt is the other individual to have achieved this feat, having done so four times himself.

  • Bronze for Asafa in the 2009 World Championships final. Best career finish for him at a major event. Great to see the breakthrough. Bronze is a huge achievement in that final. Bolt - 9.58, Gay - 9.71, Powell - 9.84. Congrats Asafa!

  • asfa's record isnt 9.84 but 9.72.

  • Correct. But his time in this race was 9.84.

He had his best career FINISH in a major event in Berlin, not his personal best time.

Powell's PB is 9.72 after he held WRs at 9.74 and 9.77.

  • Asafa needs to attend meditation classes. He is the fastest 100m runner on earth. I feel he is even better than Bolt for 100m. He seems to be losing his focus in major races. He needs to get over this fast. He has the best movement of any 100m runner

  • I am with you Asafa...To me you are and will ALWAYS be a great sprinter...and I like the fact that you are soooo humble, sincere and greatful!!

I wish you all the best for Berlin....!!! I am routing for YOU!!

  • @wwwaterwwater well what breakthrogh? he didnt win and 3rd he already was in osaka

  • @sonofthedestroyer i think the same as you do, i think he would be better than bolt in the 100m but he is always losing his focus, maybe someone should hyonotize him before a major event.

  • if he ran tha 60m he cud smash greenes record cuz ova 50 60 he is tha best

  • Yea I definitely feel asafa has more in the tank, if its enough to give bolt a run for his money I doubt it, but hes definitely suffering from stage fright in the past. If he can get past this like he did in berlin he could run some decent times this year.

  • A great athlete. I was thrilled by how the Jamaicans shattered the 4 x 1 WR by a full three-tenths second...Powell finished that memorable Beijing race in style!

  • Finally !! jeje

  • I sincerely differ on your opinion, the fact that Powell lost the concentration on the big occasion, does not detract from his personal best (9.72)

Something that I do agree is that he is an accelerator by excellence, but he lacks of top-speed, something that Usain Bolt and Tyson Gay have to spare.

Bolt and Gay are the only sprinter in history who have managed to break the 44 KPH speed-limit. This achievement was made in Berlin by both of them.

  • yh 3rd wen he was de favourite . this time ppl didn't even expect him 2 medal

  • hes been 3rd at worlds before.
