Oshitaoshi is the name used in Tomiki Aikido for the technique known to most aikido practitioners as ikkyo, or first technique. It can be done standing or sitting. Suwari waza means sitting techinque. Here, Sensei Flynn explains that when doing oshitaoshi either as a standing or sitting technique, your posture should remain erect and that the technique is correctly done by making nice big circles with the arms as one takes only a moderately big step forward. One should not lurch forward and break one's own balance
