The questioner says:-
Is Asha'ira and Sufism/Sufis are from the 73 groups, sects ?
Shaikh Othman:-
In relation to Asha'ira Yes they are from the 72 groups... The Asha'ira are from the 72 groups... Because the 73 groups, when we say 73 groups, one of these groups, are the saved, survived group, the other misguided, deviant groups are 72, we have one saved, survived group and the other 72 are deviant, misguided groups. The Asha'ira group without any doubt is one of the 72 groups.
Regarding Sufism, Sufism is not a (Creed group) i.e. a group which is based on a Creed(Aqeedah), but as they call it, it's a Tariqa(ways) and therefore, we could find Sufi Ash'ari, Sufi Mu'atazili, Sufi Maturidi, Sufi Deobandi, Sufi Barelvi, Sufi Kullabi, Sufi Jahmi, Sufi Quburi(Grave worshipper), Sufi Shie'i... it's a mixture .. It's a Tariqa( way), thus, it depends on the person Aqeedah(Creed), it depends on the person Aqeedah(Creed).
Sufism in general are deviant, misguided Tariqas(ways) no doubt in this, and they do not constitute or form a group of Speech/talk. The deviant, misguided groups are originally, the groups of Kalam(Speech/talk/words), this groups i.e. Speech/talk/words groups differs with Ahlul Sunna in Aqeedah(Creed). But Sufism and Sufis in general distribute and filter them to which of these 72 groups they belong......
