In this, the first of four videos, Jaxon Ravens explains some of the obvious and basic gear you'll need to bring with you on a mushroom hunting expedition.

Jaxon is not an expert in the field of mycology (the scientific study of fungi). These videos are only introductions to this activity and for basic informational purposes only.

Do not eat any wild mushrooms you find unless you are absolutely sure what they are. Many wild mushrooms can be dangerous if eaten. Make sure to go with someone who knows what they are doing on your first couple of trips.

  • Very good informative video. Hell of a way to go man!

  • @ariesseeks: My hometown is Renton. I don't live there anymore. I don't know where this guy goes mushroom hunting. But I have to admit the forest looks gorgeous. Gosh, I miss the Pacific Northwest.

  • @nadjadee That is a great idea!!!!!!

  • Looks great

    Billy from Tacoma

  • A paper bag is good, but I recently heard that it's better to bring a container that allows for the spores to fall through and back onto the ground. I like this idea because it's helps to lay spores for future mushrooms to grow. Just avoid plastic and solid plastic buckets.

  • I had a nice harvest of chanterelles this last weekend, thanks to the early rain. Got several pounds in just about a half hour then went and looked for a cauliflower mushroom I spotted last year. Didn't find the cauliflower, but the chanterelles sure are nice!

  • One more thing I would suggest, if I were going to pick in the woods make sure afterward to brush yourself off real good or shower when u get home. Ticks!!!! Yes, crawling around under brush you can pick one up. My first experience learning to pick Chantrelles within the week I had also picked up a tick. Just be smart about being in the forest.

  • @casinoman7

  • what kind of bag should i store the mushrooms in?
