This is the former Seaboard Air Line Railroad now owned by CSX and operated as the Charlotte Subdivision. The first section of this railroad was built around 1860. It now begins near Forest City, NC, runs to Shelby, Charlotte, and on to Wilmington, NC.

  • On 7/13/66 Seaboard Air Line trains #45 & #46 hit headon about a mile east of the station.

J.W.Pait of Hamlet was killed in the cab of GP-9 1927.

    Locomotives involved, 1911/1927/1963/1971/1979/4027.

    5 GP-9's and an F-3.

Took SAL about three weeks to completely clean up the wreckage.

  • There's a framed copy of the newspaper article about the wreck hanging on the wall of the Cherryville Railroad Museum (former SAL depot).

  • OMG! I knew I would see this video somewhere! I was the idiot that drove over the railroad tracks at the last minute in the truck... well, my dad did. We live right in front of Rudissel Stadium, the high school football field. Like the video, though

  • I know where that is. That's the first time I've ever heard from anyone who was crossing in front of the train.

  • yayyyy, there's actually something about where I live.

  • Just goes to show you can find just about anything on YouTube.

  • Th Charlotte Sub ends in Monroe and turns into the Monroe Sub at Monroe which goes to Hamlet. You probably know the Monroe Sub is from Abbeville, SC to Hamlet, NC. Good video!
