http://www.euronews.net/ NASA successfully launched its Ares 1-X rocket today from the Kennedy Space Centre, in Florida. Rising into the Florida sky, the 327-foot (100-metre) rocket thundered away from the launch pad, marking the first time a new vehicle has launched from the complex since the first space shuttle launch in 1981.

  • amazing that it was still visible from the Earth (1:33)

  • will the rocket looks very light and with the amount of thrust out put its givin.... yes it will reach space it minets

  • Hey kosh. Get with the program! Around 1900 the first men reached the South Pole, planted flags, took pictures and came home (or died trying). Fifty years later, multiple nations returned to Antarctica for science -- using steel ships, prefab buildings, radio, air support and international cooperation. With the success of Ares, it's now likely a large coalition of nations will return to the Moon to stay -- for science -- around 2020. Fifty years after Apollo. Some joke.

  • This is the first time a big, dumb, relatively simple, relatively safe, relatively cheap, recoverable and reusable solid rocket booster (SRB) has ever been allowed to fly alone, rather than as an assist to a liquid fuel vehicle. The stability, control and guidance that were achieved on this flight surprised many "experts" and has proved that the next generation of heavy lift rockets (to take mankind back to the moon and on to the planets) can use this radical concept.

  • The top section on this flight was only a "boilerplate" or weighted dummy stage, without engines or guidance. It was never intended to keep flying. The purpose of this flight was only to test the first stage. In future flights the second stage will have a liquid-fueled engine and continue flight to orbit.

  • What a joke, with such a rocket we may be to the moon in 25 yrs, wait we were the in 1969, or Not.. What are we to believe, help......

  • You mean where the first stage seperated from the "dummy" top?

  • did any body notice the bit right at the end where it looked like the mission had failed

  • what's new in this rocket design ? It looks like the old European Ariane IV

  • Word. It's impressive.
