House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan: "We can no longer let politicians in Washington deny the danger to Medicare -- the danger is all too real, and the health of our nation's seniors is far too important. We have to save Medicare to avoid disruptions in benefits for current seniors, and to strengthen the program for future generations. House Republicans have put forward a plan to do just that. Democratic leaders in Congress have failed to produce a plan -- it has been 755 days since Senate Democrats even passed a budget. Meanwhile, the President's plan would empower a panel of 15 unelected bureaucrats to cut Medicare for current seniors, while failing to save the program for future retirees.
"This video lays out the clear choice our nation faces on Medicare: Will Medicare become a program in which a board of bureaucrats manages its bankruptcy by denying care to seniors? Or will leaders work together to save and strengthen Medicare by empowering seniors to choose health care plans that work best for them, with less support for the wealthy and more help for the poor and the sick? House Republicans have advanced solutions to save Medicare. Instead of working with us, the leaders of the Democratic Party have opted to play politics with the health security of America's seniors."

@DillonDee1 That's net worth: E.G Double counting.
If you spent a million dollars planting a farm, does that money disappear?
No. It literally grows back. There's a difference between net worth and disposable income.

Path to Prosperity sounds another misleading title like the Patriot Act....

@USfutbol - I indicated that the top 10% now have 90% of the FINANCIAL WEALTH of the nation (note that "FINANCIAL WEALTH" does not include your underwear & forks & spoons - the personal basics a person needs to survive -- but financial assets that can relatively soon be converted into cash). Most Americans would have a tough time raising $8k by next Saturday. I got my info from Wiki which sourced the info

@DillonDee1 Where did you hear it would go to 95%? Where did you hear that the 10% now has 90%? Can you provide a source to back these claims up.

This is a video every boneheaded Democrat should watch. Too bad they wouldn't admit he's right after watching it.

I don't understand why congress doesn't move to enact the simplest first step to reducing Medicare costs. Everyone eligible for Medicare must accept it, and Medicare pays before any other health insurance does. Why not enact a law to change this.
By allowing those with other health insurance to opt out annually, the need for Medicare is greatly reduced, especially for those between 55 and 70 who are still working.
Requiring other insurance to pay ahead of Medicare (as other government plans

How about we just turn it into a voucher as planned so no one can actually get coverage? That is better right?....
The real problem with medicare is that the current U.S medicare system is highly inefficient. Many countries have efficient high quality universal healthcare because it is constantly being scrutinized for efficiency.
It is not whether medicare should exist or not, it is how can we make it better and functional, the voucher system destroys medicare, it is a simple fact.

The biggest flaw in his reasoning is that most medicair "consumers" are unable to assess the quality of a medical service. A capitalistic approach like this needs a certain transparency on the part of the medicar providers (which i doubt is easy to achieve) and knowledge and experience to judge this information (which most patients lack). While i dislike the idea of a random group of experts deciding, i think it is still superior what Ryan offers atm. Maybe there is a better option though
