lyoto machida is the best karateka i have ever seen. ther are awesome world champs and grandmasters of shotokan, but machida is sick. he uses karate so well, he times, he works with his feet, he puts the opponent into traps...a legend for the future DEFINITLY

@HomesliceDrummer sure is true man. BJJ and Wrestling are essential to Lyoto, but I do believe that if this was K1, Lyoto would be quite successful. The thing is just, if Lyoto is able to avoid grappling, he faces opponents who are not as skilled in striking than the K1 fighters, so he would have greater chances in winning.

I personally dont believe Machida fits into K1, but he would make a name for himself if he wanted to.

Your argument doesn't make any sense. Any Muay Thai or Kickboxing fighter who isn't very good at wrestling and BJJ would also get taken down and submitted withn a minute in MMA.

Karate and no wrestling/bjj = lose in MMA

Muay Thai and no wrestling/bjj = lose in MMA

Karate or Muay Thai with good BJJ and wrestling = win in MMA

They are both good choices to train for striking.

You can't even talk to this guy. He's just purposely being a retard and not acceptng the fact that Shotokan and other forms of Karate can be used effectively to beat the shit out of sombody.

And I at lol at him claiming that Lyoto is a wrestler and black belt in BJJ being the reason he can win.

Machida has 2 submission wins, and like 7 KO/TKO victories. Machida uses his Shotokan style stand up to knock people on their ass, not BJJ to win fights.

Look at my example of one of the greatest and most skilled PROFESSIONAL MMA stand up fighters in Lyoto Machida who is solid proof that a GOOD fighter using Shotokan technique can compete and be a world champion at the very highest level of competition.
