The Hotel Kandalama

After dealing with stomach issues and roughing it at roadside hotels and restaurants, it was a breath of fresh air to stay at the Kandalama Hotel. My Sri Lankan travel companions had a somewhat different experience.

Whats wrong with that guy? Is he sri lankan? I'm sri lankan and I stayed at that hotel. It was awesome. How they built it on the rock it just amazing. Very relaxing. As for your friend, I'm guessing he was pissed off about something?

I'm not exactly sure. I was sort of just conjecturing because the staff seemed hesitant to let him in. Or maybe he was just meditating :)

I have stayed in this hotel myself and was overjoyed that footage had been uploaded - would have liked to see more of the surroundings rather than your sulky friend - and if indeed the 2 guys are your friends why didn't you insist that they stay with you ? The hotel, incidentally, is remarkable.

If you or your friends themselves were paying the same amount as you were for yourself, for themselves, the hotel would have provided the same facilities for them. You ought to be grateful that your friends got the facilities they got, as a majority of global hotels do not even consider they ought to provide any facility for people "accompanying" guests!

Well I guess "Driftreality" didn't mean to insult the local mentality. Well of course I too had stayed in Kandalama several nights. This is not an issue about affordability, but the context each person comes from.

Sorry to hear "capitalist" westerners suddenly waking up to the virtues of socialism - equality, dignity of labour, equal opportunities etc... Well, my brother from the land of 'milk and honey'... welcome to the real world... at least this trip widened your horizons about life on Planet Earth... Hope the experience enriches your life. this hotel is the best hotels in the WORLD!!!! i just got back from lanka today in fact. there is no comparison to Kandalama.

the staff (especially the staff), the food (best lankan food i've eaten in my life), the surroundings... superb!!!!!!!!!!

This is one of my favourite places in the world!I've been travelling to SL annually just to stay in this wonderful place. But to be honest I know that their treatment towards the drivers aren't very good. We went there just once with a driver and when we discovered the situation, we made a point to get a room for the driver too.But I know every one cannot afford to do so. Yeah, the hotel management should definitely upgrade the facilities they have for drivers! Humans should be treated equaly!
