Watching this, I am thinking that the gardeners might not have all that much money and are using and working with what they can get their hands on. love all the recycling and reusing going on. Buying soil to fill a raised bed is not in everybody's budget and if one has no car or truck, hard to transport. They might have been able to get the wood and waiting for next growing season to get the soil....

I loved how you pointed to all the mistakes were done in this garden, and your recommendations.

Interesting.

Wow, you have some challenged gardeners in your area...

Everyone has their own style when it comes to gardening. I like to bulid a mini fence to keep out small animals and kids in my garden.
John, love your vids, but this one was a bit too negative. They probably fully intend on filling those raised beds as time goes on and compost comes in. Around here, topsoil is $40/yd plus delivery, and with my raised beds on granite slab, I too would love to have more soil.

Compost here is $16 a yard at Sonoma Compost. If someone does not have a truck they can purchase compost for $2 a 3 cubic foot bag and haul it in their car. It is NOT that expensive in this area. Im not exactly sure the reasons WHY they did not fill their raised bed, but I wanted to point it out to others that its my believe if you have a raised bed, you should fill it, of course, thats my opinion, I encourage everyone to always do they BEST they can.. and grow in the best SOIL they can.
