Morgan Freeman is a baaaad man.
Thanks for posting this. I've been trying to remember the movie where he played a pimp.

Yup, that's her alright! How Morgan Freeman didn't get the Oscar for this is anybody's guess. One of the best onscreen villains in history!

@ElectricHawk "in the cold back-alleys of Times Square, (and I'm paraphasing here) a jury of his peers found Fast Black guilty where are a court of law had failed. And the attendant sentencing was both fitting and absolute. This is Jonathan Fischer- Channel 3... Street Smart"

nobody is more badass than morgan freeman in this movie.

@ajacqx How does this movie end? I've only seen up to this part.

perhaps.. but hardly anyone wins coming out of the gate, and this was really morgan's first real meaty role. plus he's managed to gather some attention since then. I don't think he's pissed or anything these days.

@ElectricHawk except for in that world my friend. The street poet wrote-"and the pigs hassle the cat who kicks a hog-- for working a bitch like a dog 'The Children of the Night' ...circa 1971
I recall how Freeman said in an interview that people praised him so much for this scene but he pointed out that it was Kathy Baker who sold the whole thing. Her performance if off the charts during these five minutes.

@Hibbs4Prez I don't want to take anything from Kathy Baker, I'm a big fan, and her performance here and thru-out was superb. But Freeman just lit the thing up everytime he was on-camera. So this scene is indicative of his omnipresence all movie long. The real victim here was Christopher Reeve. Just like with the original Batman, when Michael Keaton played opposite Jack Nicholson's Joker. He was playing for "steak-knives" from the start.

It's a terrible idea but man is it a badass scene! Morgan Freeman is pure fury here. Chilling scene in an otherwise mediocre movie only uplifted by Freeman's presence.

@RASOOL28 ... I'll grant you it is probably by category a "B-Movie", but as you say- Freeman's potrayal is so commanding, it demands notice. Now, could you see this being remade with a little different story-line and an A-list cast, with Freeman in on it and maybe a Bill Duke directing...? Cha-Ching!
