Tree Shredding Hail Storm | La Junta/Las Animas, CO- June 11th, 2009

June 11th, 2009 was a fun and exciting chase day, even though we didn't see any tornadoes on that day. What we did see was a pair of LP Supercells form near the towns of La Junta and Las Animas, CO that put down an extended hail event! These storms had incredible hooks on radar, but the bases were a bit too high for tornado genesis. Still though, they offered up some incredible structure and some nice size hail!

Dave and I drove in and out of several hail cores, partly because we do enjoy hail, and partly because we were also anxious to try out our newly designed driver and passenger size retractable hail guards! They performed great and kept our glass intact! At times the hail was coming down so hard that it looked like it had snowed, most of the hail wasn't too huge overall, but what it lacked in size, it made up for in intensity!
