Sometimes - no make that very often - common sence is beaten down by boredom. and since being home while it rains is quite amazingly boring i decided i would make a video.
the sciency detail is beyond me at the moment, but basically for every 60g of sodium chlorate (a powerful poison and incendiary ingredient) you require 40g of sugar, the result as you will see is a very bright, very hot orange flare.

whenever we did this at school we did it inside a fume cupboard, and i am now pretty certain as to why this was done.

i think i will make a series of videos, next up soap napalm and after that smoke bombs.

oh yeah , you can substitute the sugar for gelatine and the nail polish remover for any spirit, petrol or the like, also adding powdered organic dye will make the smoke different colours (not demonstrated since i dont know where to attain such luxurys.
