as a man who did his duty for his country, i respect him. As an author and story teller, pretty entertaining. as someone who would run down gabeski and bong, he is full of himself. these guys went against the best the germans and japenese had to offer, when victory was in doubt. yeager got shot down by the only real pilot he faced, then came back in the last 6 months of the war where he was facing 'young inexperience' pilots who were greatly outnumbered. the air war was almost over by this time.

It's how he was raised. In those states WV, TN, and North GA ect.. me and my family were raised differently. My Uncle is tough on me because that's how he shows his care and compassion for me and my family. People in the city would not understand how mountain folk were raised. We were raised differently with more tough parents because we were taught to be self-sufficient. He can say what he wants about others. He himself was shot down behind enemy lines and evaded capture for 4 months.

I have a lot of respect for Chuck Yeager and his accompllishments, but I think he lets himself down very badly in this interview. If he does not like giving interviews he should not do them, he is always going to get asked the same old questions by reporters who don't fully understand the subject. He should not bad mouth other highly decorated aces who are no longer alive to defend themselves. Watch an interview with the late Gen. Robin Olds and see how gracious and patient he is. R.I.P Gen Olds

The U.S. lost out in not allowing Mr. Yeager to go into outer space. And why was he denied that privilege, because he didn't have the education, even though he had more flying skills than any other human on the planet. The United States lost on this one, just like they have lost on others that don't possess that almighty university/college diploma.

    You confuse "hero" with "saint".

He was no saint. But he sure as hell was an American hero. You don't need to apologize for wrecking anyone's hero-worship of him because you have no such power, so rest your conscience. I would love to see an encounter between your sort and Yeager on YouTube and it turn out not unlike how Buzz Aldrin's visit with Bart Sibrel, but most likely, he'd brush you off with a gentleman's smile like a piece of lint.

    Have some self-respect.
