@bowboybob555 It was at the Cricket Club, and for a few months I had a group that Danny Brown called the happy hour gang and we would open for Benny from 6 to 9 on Wednesdays and Friday nights. Robman99@aol.com

Definitely at the Cricket Club----------my favorite local singer.

@whitee49 I have always been a great fan of Benny"s and still play many of his songs, trying to sound like him. I will argue on your behalf that "Yes" that is at the Cricket Club on LiveOak. All of these argueing that it is some where else (and it was the Lantern Lounge, not Blue or Green) must have never been to the Cricket. The stage at the Melody Ranch was much bigger.

I played with benny for several years. My name is Woody Bridges. I moved from Beaumont in 1979. The last time I saw Bennie he was suppose to go open the George Jones show up around woodville. Bennie was one of the best entertainers I have ever played with. I quit playing in 1973 and Danny Brown took my place. Danny and I were good friends too.

Benny Barnes!!!!! An East Texas Treasure. The old Cricket Club was on the lower end of Concord Road about block from the 'Record Rack'. Vivian at the 'Record Rack' always managed to keep some of Benny's records in stock as long as she could find them. All of my 45's are worn out!!!! What a guy.

Dang, there was a blue lantern on College? I'm sure I drank at all the joints on College, but, for some reason, forgot that one. Is it still there and what's it called now?

Thanks for posting this video of a local legend. I had the honor of backing Benny of bass guitar at Doc Holiday's with Danny Brown. I would fill in now and then when their house bass player was absent. I leased Yvonne's Club during the '80's and had the "Texas T" band. Benny was a great entertainer and just an "Old Chunk of Coal"!
Im guessing the would have been at Doc Holidays???????
