I' impressed with how well the topic of religion is treated in general in the books and show.
So it doesn't matter whether you are or aren't religious in real life; you can relate to the struggles of these poor unlucky mortals, in a world which seems to have colossal forces at work, well beyond the comprehension of the characters in the story.

But the faith of the Lord of Light only resembles Islam in its execution, not its beliefs. It's not strictly monotheist, it more resembles Zoroastrianism in the duo belief in the Lord of Light and the Great Other, although only the Lord of Light is worshiped.

Druidism is pagan polytheism. Both the God of Seven and the Lord of Light are similar to Abrahamic faiths but in different ways. The Seven is actually monotheistic and is most like post 2nd Vatican Roman Catholicism, well organized and institutionalized, greatly followed and more tolerant. The Lord of Light is like fundamentalist Christianity (but not early Christianity, because early Christianity was peaceful and persecuted) and Early Islam.

I wonder what role the Dragons play in all of this, particularly with the Lord of Light religion.....
