MY OLD KENTUCKY HOME
by Stephen Foster

The sun shines bright in the old Kentucky home,
'Tis summer, the people are gay;
The corn-top's ripe and the meadow's in the bloom,
While the birds make music all the day.

The young folks roll on the little cabin floor,
All merry, all happy and bright;
By 'n' by hard times comes a-knocking at the door
Then my old Kentucky home, goodnight.

CHORUS
Weep no more my lady
Oh! weep no more today!
We will sing one song for the old Kentucky home,
For the Old Kentucky Home far away.

They hunt no more for the possum and the coon,
On meadow, the hill and the shore,
They sing no more by the glimmer of the moon,
On the bench by the old cabin door.

The day goes by like a shadow o'er the heart,
With sorrow, where all was delight,
The time has come when the people have to part,
Then my old Kentucky home, goodnight.

CHORUS

The head must bow and the back will have to bend,
Wherever the people may go;
A few more days, and the trouble all will end,
In the field where the sugar-canes grow;

A few more days for to tote the weary load,
No matter, 'twill never be light;
A few more days till we totter on the road,
Then my old Kentucky home, goodnight.

CHORUS

  • I was born and raised in one of the best states in the south, I am Kentuckian, where the horse run free and the best of them run in the big race every year called "Kentucky Derby". Although we arnt all about that either we offer our football team, as well as basketball team is the best in the nation to us in the Bluegrass State. Watching this makes me Proud to be what I am !!!

  • I always felt someone from Kentucky should sing this song at the Derby. Not just a famous artist that has no relationship to our state and the grand tradition it's most famous for.

  • Who is performing this version of the song? It's the best one i've heard yet and would really like to know.

  • ive been to about all the places on here :)

  • Any person from anywhere can be a American, But there are only a few 4 Million from the 6 billion people in the world who can experience the beauty and the awesomeness of this great state and can call themselves a REAL KENTUCKIAN!

  • @jbwell24 nothing wrong with that, i live in Eastern Massachusetts with a bunch of rich stuck up, ignorant motherfuckers!

  • @RCTPatriot75 Try New Hampshire, it is rated #1 in the world for its foliage, by far the most beautiful state in the USA,

  • TOUCHING!!!:)

  • Fyi most of kentucky is not hillbilly im a city boy and i always love hearin this song when im in rupp arena and seein the chearleaders sway back and forth it makes me feel like i belong here go cats !!! Lets beat the hoosiers and btw thumbs up if u saw the unc game we bad ass

  • I've been all over this country and I can honestly say I've never seen a more beautiful state than the one I was born and raised in. I have lived in Kentucky all my life (26yrs), attended UK (like there was any other option) and wouldn't have it any other way. Tennessee has those stupid Vols (but at least it's pretty), Alabama is flat as a pancake (at least what I've seen of it), Ohio is god-awful rude, Indiana, well, my Pa-Paw always said birds fly upside down over Indiana cuz there ain't noth

  • Devide KY in half from the from the horizontal area across and that devides the country from the city accents. And yes! We ALL whear shoes!

  • Really guys whats wrong with Kentucky! Its part of America too! Everyone saying "ive lived there and it sucked!" are lying! They probably dont even know where KY is! I live in Kentucky and only about 50% still have a country accent. Most of you dont even know where and what a "hill-billy" is! We dont pick on your states! Why do you pick on ours?
