I think you are nick picking on the terminology. Most people know what is meant by fracking. Its like we call bacterial testing "Bac-T". Whose gonna stand up at a water board meeting to shout the person down who says the word "bacT" ?
Lets not micro manage this to the point that the urgent issues get lost. Folks lives are at stake!!

@telltree I would also note that the gas industry might argue that it get's to define the use of language, and the people don't get to. But they are wasting their time. The people will call it the way they see it, and if the verbiage isn't convenient to the industry's selling points, well...shucks, maybe the industry can get some corporate attorneys together to work some magic.

@wmbt62 It's whatever the people say it is. When a few hundred thousand or even a few million people decide to spell it one way, then that's how it's spelled. How much of our modern day proper English was considered the improper slang of yesteryear?

@wmbt62 Great to see another PetE around, seems like everyone's an expert without any education on what they're an expert in. I've only been at it about 6 months though, great great job to have, so many people in Indiana and Allegheny counties are jealous.

@RossoCarne It used to bother me, too. But as a petroleum engineer ( 40+ years) I got used to it. The real authority on this is The Journal of Petroleum Technology, the bible of petroleum engineering. They NEVER use the "K" version. It's always frac, fracing, or sometimes frac'ing or frac'ed. I once asked one of the editors why and he replied that it's because they're is no "K" in the word fracturing! Note that if you say the word frac it has a k sound. I prefer frac'ing or frac'ed !

@Nesnatae Why would anyone dump petrochemicals. That's worth big money.

@wmbt62 meh, I spell it fracking. When I say fracing it just looks like frace-ing, and I get confused.
It makes sense that big gas companies with literally tons of money can pay off or promote their propaganda and keep common citizens in the dark. Thanks to people who speak out! Our kids and the future of our country depends on it!

You can always tell who are the rank amateurs in these debates. If someone calls the hydraulic fracturing process, which BTW is over 75 years old, "FRACKING" you can pretty well conclude that they actually know very little about drilling and completing oil and gas wells. It's either "fracturing" or "fracing", not "fracKing" !
