I agree that it's a little much to buy a new and expensive hammer drill. I used my little Sears Craftsman with a hammer function, while a little harder it still worked. Many homeowners have this smaller type of drill for all sorts of household jobs. You may also be able to borrow one or rent one cheap at Home Depot or other places. You also need a 5/16 masonry bit but other than that no special tools are required!

totally agree that everyone can do the job. But the right tools are not worth buying if only need to get one or two jobs done.
