With an area about the size of New Jersey, Bolivia's Salar de Uyuni salt flat is known as the flattest place on earth. So when NASA needs to calibrate the satellite it uses to measure the melting of the polar ice caps, they point the ICESat's laser at the Salar de Uyuni first. One of earth's fascinating natural phenomena helping us gauge the fate of another. An original GOOD Video.

The Salar contains the largest reserve of lithium in the world, yes lithium as in lithium batteries, yes batteries as in electric cars, yes, freedom from oil. I hope this translates into a 21st century airport for Dubai, oops I meant to say Uyuni

Those impressed with The Salar de Uyuni, visit MADIDI. This amazon enclave is the oposite of the Salar. Madidi has more birds and wild life than Canada and the US combined. National Geography has the report on Madidi. Cheers, H.V.
