@Banshee111harpyeagle It is true that most if not all of them believed in god, but there is evidence that they were in fact, Deists and not Christians...

This cartoon proves that even Porky Pig is a better American patriot than the fundamentalists who try to impose religion into government.

I guess when you consider all 50 states preambles contain and reference God then it would only be proper to have under God as part of the Pledge of Allegiance. Yes this Nation was founded on Christian Principles. Your welcome.

God doesn't exist, my friend. We all live under The Flying Spaghetti Monster. You refuse His Noodly Appendages because you are delusional and in denial!! The Cosmic Pasta was cooked for your sins!!! All Pastafarians around the world is evidence of this!! Repent of your silly Invisible Fairy In The Sky, and turn your face to toward His Glory of pasta and Meatballs!! RAMEN!!!

I have to say it sounds better without the extra phrase. There are fewer "bumps" of silence.

The cartoon was done in the 1940s, before "under god" was added to the pledge-- by an act of congress in 1954. They still taught it the original way at my grade school at least until 1960.

In 1960, having moved between 1st and 2nd grade, I discovered that at the new school they added "under god" to the pledge as I knew it. Both schools were in CA. I wondered about it but continued to say it the old way because I thought the "new way" was weird. Years later I heard that it was added in the mid-50s. My 1st grade class in '58-'59 was still saying the old way (Porky's way here)-- teachers didn't just "switch" on command-- not everyone agreed there was any need for a change.
