hey i love your trimming tools :) i've tried to make my own but the metal seemed to be too flimsy so it would bounce or bend when i would try to use it. Are your tools a certain type of metal? or do you just try to find godd strong pieces to bend?

@albpoolshark what you really need is a high tensile steel.This will keep its edge a lot longer than ordinary steel. I have used ordinary steel but it does need a lot to keep the edge sharp especially if one is trimming coarse groggy clay. SL

I've always known I wanted to go into arts and crafts but never been sure which area in particular. Simon, how long did it take you to learn this? How aqnd where can I learn it myself? Im in Birmingham, UK

hi - I did an apprenticeship with my father David Leach from 1979-1984 . You can learn in a matter of months, depending if you have a wheel and the amount of practice you are prepared to give to it !!! SL

Your trimming tools are very unique. Not only this one, but also the large half-moon tool you used to round the bigger bowls in earlier videos. Does someone make these tools for you, or do you make them yourself?

Hi - they are homemade and they are bought !

I use whatever works for me either...these ones are just bent pieces of metal with some angles ground on them so they cut.Turning/trimming tools do need to be kept sharp as they get blunt through use.  SL

@sleachpots oh cool because i love using the white 181 clay my school offers. So i should be alright with regular steel if i can't seem to get my hands on stronger materials

How come the bowl you are trimming doesn't go flying off the wheel base?...I didn't see anything holding it in place other than the pressure from your hand on the bottom of the bowl.
