Cheap Conical Fermenter

It seems like a good deal, but the quality on this thing is really terrible (like everything that comes from China). I never even used this because the valves are junk and the thermometer leaked. I switched back to good old "made in the USA" Better Bottles. Maybe someday I'll shell out the big bucks and get a Blichmann.

I have one that looks exactly like this one. I bought mine on eBay for $300 shipped but with no thermometer. I stuck a stick-on self-adhesive liquid crystal thermometer on the outside of mine and it already has a batch of Chardonnay Wine fermenting in it and is working perfectly! There are no leaks or other issues aqnd the quality is very high. There is a video of it fermenting (the air lock bubbling) after 24 hours on my channel.

How much was the shipping cost on this? that's what scares me is paying several hundred just on fermenter then having to pay like $100 on shipping

i would bet the home-brewer doesn't plan to brew a batch using the threaded parts he will probably modify it somehow (e.g. i.e.a weld of some sort). So is it the same or not? is it the same? oooh maybe some alumaloy solder.

This is not the same. The differences are: 1) we would never put threaded fittings, nut, etc. in with the beer (e.g., for the thermometer). 2) Weld quality is much higher on Stout fermenters. 3) Overall fermenter weight is 25% more for Stout fermenters. 4) Stout fermenters don't have plastic end caps.

This is not the same.
I was thinking about getting this same fermenter, does this come with a racking arm on the top clamp so you can adjust where you are racking the beer from? if it doesnt, how has your transfer process been working?

Mine did not come with a rotating racking arm. I think some of them do though. I have still not used this due to the leaking issues, so I can't offer any input on racking from a fixed position. I am still fermenting in Better Bottles for now. That seems to be cheaper and easier than fixing this thing. Plus, I really like being able to see what's going on in there.

The shipping was just a few dollars. I should update this posting however. I still have not been able to use the fermenter. When I filled it with Star San on brew day, I noticed that both valves and the thermometer were all leaking. I was able to stop the valve leaking by putting them in the vice and tightening the packing nut for all I was worth. The thermometer was another story. I wound up having to find a weld-in stainless thermowell, and I still haven't found anyone to weld it for me.
