Kobe Bryant 2006-07: 36 points vs Lebron, Avoids Chasedown Block by Lebron Part 1

*NOTE: Kobe dunks and avoids a chasedown block by Lebron at about :41, in the same fashion as he does in the 2011 all star game

Statline: 36 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists

Struggling throughout February with only 2 wins, the Lakers now ended their road trip in a game against one of the best teams in the East, the Cavaliers led by 22 year old Lebron James. A casual fan would think Kobe Bryant would struggle again as he shot 41% the last 2 games while having struggled in 3 of 5 games that month.

But as usual, Kobe stepped up to the challenge of another Kobe vs. Lebron matchup. Early on in the game, Kobe looked for his teammates while Lebron was struggling. But while it continued into the 2nd quarter, the Cavs raced to a 9-0 run to cap the 2nd quarter to lead by 12 at halftime. Kobe then started the 3rd with a monstrous dunk down the paint which started a 13-2 run with Kobe scoring 9 of those. Kobe continued to play a team game ending the 3rd with a 22/5/7 statline while leading his team to a 67-64 lead. Lebron on the other hand had 11 points while shooting under 40%.

Then in the 4th, Kobe exploded. To start the 4th, Kobe scored 5 straight jumpshots in the grill of Aleksander Pavlovic and Lebron James and it appeared as if Kobe was off to another 40 point game. But after Kobe made his 5th shot, the Cavs called time and Kobe played very unselfishly afterwards(perhaps another one of those times where Phil tells Kobe to stop shooting). After Kobe had stopped shooting, the Cavaliers chipped away from the deficit to go on top 90-85. The Lakers fell apart and the Cavs won 99-90 despite a horendous 5-16 shooting game from Lebron James.

Despite a Cavaliers win, Kobe played a great game breaking a mini slump outplaying James matchup-wise.
