The figures are derived from the % of income donated by the 2 dominant political worldviews in our nation: liberal and conservative. It's not a new trend or one in the least bit of dispute. There are several sources for verification. The problem with libs is they would much rather give away someone else's money than their own.

As for "always" distorting facts, be careful. Use of "always" makes you look incredibly misguided.

There are so many categories for giving that it's difficult to impossible to make a reliable estimate of who gives more. Surveys such as these are notoriously unreliable. Service giving, volunteer hours, and other non-monetary sources would have to be considered. Some people don't have money to give, but they give of their time and energy to good causes. My compliments to people of ANY political persuasion for their compassion.
