In a strong wind and temperature about minus 5°C, a PW worker checks rail fixing on the Baiyin mine railway. Filmed from across the valley, an SY 2-8-2 makes its way through the Loess Mountains with a rake of empty ore wagons bound for the mine. Filmed December 2009.

  • Should be SY 1583 by the way... :-)

(Do you know exactly which day this was filmed?)

  • @qj7205 Hi,

Thanks for the numbers, I never remember to write them or location details down. This usually means I have some detective work to do when editing. It helps that modern cameras have a date and time facility (if I remember to set it to local time!)

Filmed on the morning of 10th December 2009.

  • @blackthorne57 I was there from December the 1st to December the 6th, and SY 1583 was the regular engine for the freight train during my whole stay too... :-) Normally I don't care so much about loco numbers either, but Baiyin was my favourite steam location and I also investigated the whole system very good for my article in the "China III" special of the German magazine Fern Express... ;-)

  • Smashing! Loved it. 5*
