This may not be for everyone, but it's another use of using the K2 Categories as Master Categories.
Just in case you forget what Parameters are set in what Category - why not have Master Categories with predefined Parameter settings.

does anyone know if it's possible to add modules to the k2 item.php file? i used the <jdoc:include tag in the file but it didn't work... is here something i'm missing.

Now I get it. K2 is like Joomla categories and articles so you just use K2 instead for these two areas. Simple once it is explained. And the import is very important as I missed that when looking at K2 but the video helped me convert an existing joomla set of articles into K2.
