Sugar Grove Fire Department-Pin-in Crash

The Kane County Sheriffs Department is investigating a multi vehicle fatal traffic crash near Sugar Grove.

On 3/20/09 at approximately 5:30pm Kane County Sheriffs Deputies along with Sugar Grove Police and Kane County Forrest Preserve Police responded to the area of Il Rt. 47 near Merrill Rd, north of Sugar Grove, for a report of a traffic crash with injuries and subjects trapped in their vehicles.
The initial investigation indicates that a Chevy S-10 Pickup was travelling south on Rt. 47 and crossed into the oncoming northbound lane of traffic and collided head on with a Ford Windstar. The driver of the S10 was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with apparent non life threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Rt. 47 was closed between Scott Rd and Harter Rd for the investigation. The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting Sheriffs Detectives with the investigation. It is unclear if drug or alcohol played a role in this crash. No charges or citations have been filed and the crash is still under investigation.
