Remembering the New York City Redbird Subways

A photo tribute by TexPac

http://www.youtube.com/texaspacific

A tribute chronicling the lives of the New York City / MBTA Redbird subway cars... I did not take any of these photos.

The redbird subway cars, after the end of their 40+ year service life, were promptly dumped into a bay by the city of New York... talk about stupid!

  • ugly

  • I miss the old New York...

  • I enjoyed seeing and riding them as a kid back in the late 60s-early 70s. Saddened me so much that they were retired but was good to see them last so long as a testament to the tough quality America could build back in the day. Doubtful that the newer IRT trains can last 50 years, but it is neat that their body style, especially on the ends slightly resembles the Redbirds. Was also cool that a touch of red was applied to the ends, probably as a tribute to the classic old girls.

  • @hotters70603ben amen to that.

  • @swiiszy I miss the Redbirds alot. New York City is not the same as it was before 9/11. The Redbirds got dumped in the ocean and the twin towers were destroyed by 19 hijackers. Things have really changed alot and I hate it.

  • @RedShadow1917 there not as good as the old ones

  • @Ramel2Sexy and the A C E 9 WERE ALSO USING THEM

  • miss the redbirds ]=

  • @Timessquare100 I miss the Redbirds and the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. The Freedom Tower is ugly and does not match with the Manhattan skyline. The new subway cars are boring and not as fun as the Redbird trains. R.I.P New York City!

  • you can stiil see them @ flushing
