because you don't have to accept the pagan ideas behind Christmas in order to practice it: most christians today are involved in christmas for one of two reasons: 1) to celebrate the birth of christ 2) as a secular family celebration that's an important part of our cultural heritage. as you correctly stated, Christmas is originally a pagan festival and so for me it is nothing more than a celebratory time of year: I thank God for the birth of Christ every day, not one in particular.
