It's about time we met the most decorated war hero in Tennessee history! We learn all sorts of stuff from Alvin York, including how he learned to fire a weapon, why he didn't originally want to go fight in World War I and why he carried a shovel as he fought his way through France.

Alvin and Gracie were the real thing! My dad grew up near Jamestown, and his dad and Alvin were friends. The movie is a good protrayal of the way life was in that country in that period of time. It was a tough place to make a living, but it was a great place for just living. People were real, not phonies. God, The Bible, and Church were respected. And family, community, and country were the focus of life. That was the world Sgt. York was born into and fought for.

I have been to his home and gravesite in Pall Mall also. He is one of my personal heroes. He was a great soldier but more important...he was a very good man. I got to meet one of his sons at the state park. Real heroes are hard to come by...and he was one of the best
