AUSTIN -- Hulu plans to premiere its third national prime-time ad this week on Thursday on Fox and NBC, said Eric Feng, senior VP and chief technical officer in this interview on Monday.

Interviewed at SXSW, Feng spoke about the ad campaign, how the latest ad builds from the earlier campaign, Hulu’s goals for the year and its plans to experiment with interactive ad formats.

  • with Hulu you can't skip the ad. Just can't. Volume may get turned down but the ad is there.

  • I would say satisfying the advertisers is the hardest part online. He says that online interactivity allows for more capabilities for advertising, but it also allows the user more capability to stop the ad and just skip it. I think sites like Hulu are going to have to go a lot more for product placement-like systems within an interactive setting if they want people to pay any attention. It's just too easy online to go do something in another browser tab while the ad finishes, or just pause it.
