The best open ever in Atlanta. The glitch is from my old VHS.

  • Is that Richard Belcher reading the headline intro on this night?

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the story is about Otis Nixon's then-most-recent suspension for cocaine use. He was suspended shortly after I returned home from Atlanta that summer and missed the Braves' World Series appearance.

  • It is Richard Belcher, he left channel 5 and went right over to WSB and became the instant backup....and the story was about Otis Nixon.

  • I love how the music starts out so soft and then it's like BANG, it's ACTION NEWS!

  • I love it! Thanks so much. The first time I visited Atlanta was in August '91 and they were using this open. I was blown away by WSB and fell in love with the station.

  • @capsgm2002 true dat, true dat

Ernie Anderson (the voice of ABC) has opened for many ABC-affiliated newscast, including KUSA Channel 9 Denver in the late 1980s (now its an NBC affiliate), also it is the sister station of rival WXIA.

  • WSB 1991 News Theme Published By Unknown From 1991 Until 1993

  • What a great opening from WSB-TV!

  • OMG they look SO different in this. lol Monica Pearson (Kaufman) looks SO different. lol

  • I would have to agree this was some great music that defiantly let you know Action News was starting, where it was coming to you from, and of course....Coverage You Can Count On.

I too would like to see the full version duplicated out to CD and i would even pay for it off iTunes.

  • Again, I would contact Art Rogers at WSB -- his wife is the composer and will probably have have this on file. Doppler wouldn't give it to you without the composer's permission anyway. You can ask Cheryl Rogers if she has a copy and would give you a dub for your "collection." That's about all I know to do. The WSB promotion department is dealing with what everyone in local TV is dealing with -- fewer people and more projects, so they probably just don't have time to deal with it.

  • I checked with the WSB promotional department and they said that "we (WSB) do not own or maintain a copy of that music." Do you think anyone Doppler Studios would own the rights to the music?

  • That's very kind of you. EQ Vance and I produced that material in 1990 or perhaps early 1991 at Doppler Studios off Piedmont Road, and thanks to You Tube, it's "alive," as they say! You might consider contacting the promotion department at WSB, or Art Rodgers at the station (his wife Cheryl, as I mentioned, was the composer). Hope that helps.

  • I did read your post. Thanks for the detailed information regarding the piece. As an Atlanta native, this brought back memories of the best theme that I've heard on Atlanta's airwaves. I would love to have a copy of it for my personal collection of music and instrumental pieces.

  • Did you read my post? Why do you want a copy?
