An Ulster Bank Belfast Festival at Queen's event. Tue 21 Oct - Sat 25 Oct 08 1927's multiple award-winning theatrical cabaret brilliantly recreates the seedy nightclub atmosphere of 20s Berlin. Ingeniously combining live music, performance and silent film (in which the performers interact with animations), this hugely acclaimed show takes audiences on a deliciously surreal journey through enchanting, skewed and often sinister landscapes. Compared justifiably by critics to the award-winning West End production Shock-Headed Peter, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea's bizarre and magical cast of characters includes hapless cats, marauding gingerbread men and cross dressing devils, not to mention a pair of sinister twins! A real festival highlight, 1927's thrilling production is simply not to be missed. "Executed with such breathtaking wit and aplomb that you cannot help falling for its witty, sinister charms." Lyn Gardner, The Guardian

  • Moin, Moin from Texas!

If you like the Golden entertainment of the 1920s, you might like Brendan McNally's dark comic novel "Germania" (Simon & Schuster, 2009), about the Flying Magical Loerber Brothers, four somewhat magical, Jewish vaudeville entertainers and onetime child stars who were the toast of Berlin before WWII and who reunite during the surreal, three-week "Flensburg Reich" of Admiral Doenitz, Hitler's very unlucky successor.

  • I saw this at the Warwick arts theatre and I was blown away by it. I throughly enjoyed this shows orginality and creativity.

  • I'd love to have seen this festival. As a collector of Norma Talmadge memorabilia, this short clip looks just the ticket. Thanks to whomever posted it and congrats to all involved. Very authentic. I miss Belfast :-)

  • This production was absolutely exceptional. Shame it's finished now, and will wait with baited breath to see what 1927 come up with next.
